Interviews – Tanner Pharma https://tannerpharma.com Wed, 24 Aug 2022 14:07:30 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Life-Long Friends Share a Passion for Improving Lives | Steve Scalia https://tannerpharma.com/life-long-friends-share-a-passion-for-improving-lives-steve-scalia/ Wed, 24 Aug 2022 14:07:27 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=3146

In 1984, a cross-country, family move brought Steve Scalia from the West Coast to North Carolina.  On his first day at a new middle school, he met another quite adventurous young man by the name of Banks Bourne, and the two became fast friends. Unbeknownst to them, amid their far-fetched, childhood aspirations, the two were cultivating more than just a friendship. Nearly four decades later, a time-tested relationship blossomed into a working one too, with the two best friends collaborating in business. Banks as the CEO and Founder of Tanner Pharma Group, and his best friend Steve as the company’s President.

From childhood friends to entrepreneurial business partners, just the thought brings a smile to Steve’s face. Children imagine being friends forever, but for Steve that’s a reality and just another reason to be excited about work every day.

His long-term friendship with Banks gave him a unique vantage point into the inner workings of establishing and growing a business in the healthcare space. “I had a front row seat for him founding and launching the organization for the first nine years of the company’s existence,” he reminisces.

When Steve eventually came onboard in early 2011, his goal was to leverage the wisdom of Banks and the experience of the other impressive people already in the company, including Bill Taylor, Carolina Cortez and Maryori Alvarenga. He remembers the impact they had on him right from the start.

“I’ll never forget my first day. I spent the whole day asking them what they needed to grow the company. I listened and they already knew. We applied some fundamentals: goal setting, communication, and continuous improvement, in order to make the most out of the resources and ideas that they had. These fundamentals have remained as part of our foundation, and we’ve just advanced from there.”

One thing that impresses him most about the company is the growth, and more specifically how they have grown “organically.” They intentionally avoided the acquisition pathway, instead choosing to bring in the right people to do the best job possible and build the processes and culture from the ground level.

“We’ve always retained a strong sense of opportunism and entrepreneurialism in our spirit and in our core values, even as we’ve grown. We’re constantly looking for other areas of opportunity to be able to positively impact lives.”

The growth equation is simple: Tanner listens to its customers to identify needs that can be solved by its international access solutions. From there, the company determines whether the need aligns to a current commercial division or if a new one needs to be developed to execute most efficiently.

Steve knows firsthand, the company takes risks, most of which have paid off in the best way possible – enhancing patient access to life-changing medicines.

Over the years, Tanner has expanded both its footprint (now with six offices and 13 depots worldwide) and its reach (capable of delivering pharmaceuticals, investigational medical products and supplies to 193 countries). And while entrepreneurialism grows the business, the glue that holds everything together is Tanner’s focus on patient impact.

In addition to focusing on patients in need, Tanner spends a lot of time creating an exceptional workplace for its team.  “We’re very intentional about the development of our culture and making Tanner the best place our Team Members have ever worked. If we can create a great workplace, then our team members are happy to support each other and in turn can better serve our partners and patients.”

As a whole, the Tanner team cares and “overcommunicates” all with the intent of building closeness and overcoming challenges. That’s what makes them friends. That’s what makes them family. Steve can’t say exactly what Tanner will look like in five years or beyond. But he foresees the company making a bigger impact and continuing to build its strong culture. All the while, enjoying the journey with a great Team and his best, childhood friend.

Unbridled Gratitude | Breanna Floyd  https://tannerpharma.com/unbridled-gratitude-breanna-floyd/ Wed, 13 Jul 2022 13:03:26 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=3018

There are two things Breanna Floyd brings to work in the morning and takes home in the evening – a smile and a sense of gratitude. Unbridled gratitude, actually. And why wouldn’t she? Breanna sees no reason not to have both, being fresh out of college and still working for an organization she regards as nothing short of “extraordinary”.

“We’re not your typical company. You think of people working, going in at 8 and leaving at 5 and that’s it. But that’s not us. We’re exceptional. We care for each other, care about our customers, and care about the patients at the end of the line.”

Just this past year, Breanna celebrated her three-year anniversary with Tanner Pharma Group. She currently serves as a senior finance clerk. But if you would have asked her four years ago if she expected to be where she is today, the answer would have been no. Back then she was gaining finance experience doubling down as an intern at Tanner’s parent company, Bourne Partners, as well as a local Charlotte construction company. When she joined Tanner, she quickly realized how different the work really is in the professional world.

“In my opinion college doesn’t prepare you much for the real world,” she admits. “There was definitely a learning curve after leaving university, but I was able to learn quickly with the support of my new team.”

And learn she did. Breanna relays that right from the start she began growing as a person and a professional, with the added bonus of her team growing right alongside her. When Breanna came into the fold, her department had three people plus herself. Today that number has doubled!

“Even though we’ve grown so much, I still feel like we’re a tight group. Like we’re all in it together. It’s very much a family environment. Everybody cares for everybody.”

“When you think of an office sometimes you think of something cold and stiff, but not Tanner. Tanner is warm and inclusive.”

Thinking back, Breanna recalls when she first felt this caring and collaborative spirit. In her early days of working, Tanner had a large company outing at Lake Wylie. She knew the folks in her department but not many, and like most people new to an environment Breanna was off on her own, sticking to herself. That was until she was approached by a coworker. The woman sat down with Breanna and the two got to know one another. Then the coworker introduced her to more folks, and suddenly she was conversing with more and more of the group. They spent that Friday evening swimming, playing volleyball, chowing down, and just being what Breanna can confidently say is a “close-knit group”.

Undoubtedly, this family dynamic has left her feeling mighty grateful, and she feels she responds best through her strong work ethic.

At the most recent awards ceremony, Breanna was recognized as one of two recipients of the Responsive and Caring Award. Breanna won the responsive side, being recognized for her willingness and consistency in helping others. She was noted as being quick to answer questions, help her colleagues, communicate, to reply to emails, approving orders, and more.

“If someone needs help, I like to help. And part of that is knowing that if I needed help it would be there for me, no questions asked.”

If there’s anything Breanna could hope for moving into the future, it would be that the Tanner mission expands, they are helping even more people, and that they never stop doing everything possible to assist others.

She feels that Tanner’s support of customers and patients have made her take a step back and appreciate what she has. “We have access to medicine. We can walk down the street and go to a CVS, a convenience store. We have medication and healthcare access at our fingertips, but so many don’t have that. That’s what we’re doing here. We are all trying to make a difference.”

In the end, it is for all of these reasons that Breanna is openly grateful for her journey at Tanner and for the opportunity to work with people who care about each other and the many others around the world they will never meet.

The Business of Helping People | Jonathan Bracey  https://tannerpharma.com/the-business-of-helping-people-jonathan-bracey/ Wed, 06 Jul 2022 14:20:27 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=3002

Jonathan Bracey, or JB as many call him, has become a staple face at Tanner Pharma Group. He currently serves as the company’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Development supporting the 4 core commercial divisions, though his job has entailed a bit of everything over the years.

In the early stages of his career path Jonathan served as an officer in the British Army, learning real-life leadership skills and building strong relationships in some very extreme situations. From there he took his skills to the pharmaceutical world, working in generics, ‘big pharma’ and the pharma services sectors. He was on the brink of uprooting to Vietnam for a new pharma position when a serendipitous meeting with Tanner CEO Banks Bourne and President Steve Scalia made him rethink his path. The topic of conversation was opening up a new Tanner office in the UK, and JB was drawn to the Tanner culture, their people-centric approach and genuine focus on impacting lives through medicine access. After a great breakfast meeting with them, something “clicked,” and the move to Tanner simply made sense.

JB started building Tanner’s UK branch way back then. During these early days JB quickly found a place for himself growing the UK team and furthering the company’s global presence. His focus on growth and development—from day-to-day team and process building all the way through strategic corporate dealings—gave him an interesting vantage point as well as a well-rounded list of responsibilities and priorities.

“One day one I wore all the hats. But as time has gone on, I’ve been able to give different hats away to different people,” he recalls. “We’ve been able to grow, and grow in the right way, and ultimately make a bigger impact.” Our philosophy on hiring has always been to work our own networks and contacts as much as possible. It has help immeasurable to build the great culture and team in place today.

JB has served the company in many capacities over the years, but what he has enjoyed most has been the experiences and relationships he’s built along the way.

His time with Tanner has been marked with plenty of laughs, a bit of banter, and plenty of reasons to come into work every day. There’s no shortage of memories he can recall about his Tanner family.

For instance, there was that one time he invited Steve Scalia to participate in a ‘friendly’ game of rugby.

Or when the UK team put together a charity golf day that has now turned into an annual summer event supporting organizations doing good in the local community.

Or more recently when JB and Project Executive, Pierre Dewet, attended the Med-Tech Innovation Awards to celebrate the latest innovations in the biotech industry and the achievements of a Tanner Pharma partner.

All in all, JB regards the people at Tanner as family—a family of people helping people. The company cares about the employees who in turn show that same care to patients. And the cycle continues from there.

“We’re out to do a great job and make our clients’ lives easier and patients’ lives better. We look after each other – in turn our team looks after our clients/partners who in turn look after the patient. That’s how we grow the business in the right way. It’s an honor to serve customers and patients and we each feel it in the work we do every day.”

One company accomplishment that JB won’t forget was the delivery of millions of lateral flow test kits managed by his team during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, directly supporting the UK Gov Test & Trace team. When COVID-19 hit, Tanner was ideally placed to help – initially being fortunate enough to help stand up various teams within the UK Gov Test & Trace team and then being able to help identify suppliers who could meet the government’s urgent needs. Thus, TannerPHP was formed in crisis to help meet this growing need of LFTs to support the UK’s COVID testing policy. The new division has since supplied materials to various governments and ministries of health to support ongoing health needs on a global scale.

People helping people … and the cycle continues from there.

As JB continues to bring in the days with Tanner, he hopes that the company continues to maintain this people-centric culture. Through his experience he knows that companies change, sometimes for the worse, when they exceed 100, 200, even 500 people. So, what will Tanner become? In JB’s mind, the bigger they get, the greater their impact. So, the question instead becomes, what more can they do?

Taking in the Bigger Picture | Cristian Araujo https://tannerpharma.com/taking-in-the-bigger-picture-cristian-araujo/ Tue, 05 Jul 2022 19:38:33 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=2994

The right person for the right position. Cristian Araujo may have questioned whether or not that was true when he first started working for Tanner Pharma Group, but in time he has realized, the proof is in the pudding. Or rather, the people.

For nine years now Cristian has been keeping busy as the company’s Logistics Manager for all US facilities. Prior to working in the pharmaceutical industry, Cristian made a place for himself working in logistics and management for UPS. He didn’t foresee himself switching from a courier service to pharmaceuticals, but his friendship with the husband of Maryori Alvarenga, EVP of TannerGAP & TannerCTS Supply, made that change possible.

Cristian had been working many years for UPS, so long that he was ready for a change. When change knocked, Cristian answered.

Maryori’s husband told Cristian about an open position with Tanner working in logistics and he decided to take a chance. His previous work helped him transition into the new role, but there was still the challenge of working in a new industry.

“Everyone was doing everything,” he remembers. At the time the company was comprised of only a dozen or so people, and while Cristian may have been hired as the Logistics Manager, his work really consisted of any and everything required to help get the company running.

Even within his department, there was just him and one other person. “I started with Tanner and had to build up the department. Along the way I had help from Maryori, and by her side we made the logistics department go to the next level. Back then it was not a formal logistics department, it was just a few people working together to accomplish big tasks.”

Today, Cristian’s role has become much more focused on logistics. And instead of two, he leads a fully established and growing department.

Change brought Cristian to Tanner, and change is what led him to be where he is today. Despite the long days, stress, and learning curves, in the end he came out better, and so did Tanner.

Cristian and his team have learned to create more efficient procedures for distributing and managing medicines, and he was able to use his own knowledge to increase shipping accounts and bring in suppliers. Now departments can focus on their own particular areas of work and get more medicines in the hands of patients.

“It has been a crazy ride, but we are where we want to be right now. The sky’s the limit!”

What has helped Cristian and Tanner the most over the years is the culture, the culture Cristian best describes as “family.”

“The way that we think is all thanks to the culture we’ve built. We are always thinking about what we can do to help each other. I think this is because of the diversity that we have in the company. We have people from everywhere. That’s pretty hard to find.”

There’s no doubt in Cristian’s mind, Tanner exists and operates as a team. His department is a team, and the company at large is a team as well. The position doesn’t matter, and that’s been true from the beginning.

“Sometimes when we grow, we have to adapt to changes. And I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t always easy! And it’s not that you necessarily get used to the constant change, but you start to see the bigger picture.”

And part of the big picture, Cristian has learned, is that when you’re with family, you don’t have to carry your burdens alone.

He also learned a little something about marriage.

One big surprise that Cristian found in his Tanner family was someone special – someone with whom he would build his own family.

He started back in July all those years ago, and this July he will officially be having his wedding. Cristian met his wife, Margarita, TannerLAC Commercial Operations Director, three weeks after she joined the company. Since then, the two have made history together, owning a home, and having two children.

Ultimately, Cristian became not just the right person for the company, but he found the right company to call family, making the bigger picture a little more clear. His life changed at Tanner, and he hasn’t looked back since.

When Opportunity Knocks, You Answer | Helen Austen https://tannerpharma.com/helen-austen/ Thu, 09 Jun 2022 14:29:45 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=2894

Have you ever been at the right place at just the right time? Sometimes opportunity finds us when we’re looking, other times we’re caught by surprise. When opportunity knocked for Helen Austen, she answered. And she hasn’t looked back a day since.

Summed up, Helen would tell you that the opportunity to work with Tanner Pharma Group was “life changing”. That day marked an unexpected, yet unequivocal change in her life, leading to her present role as the company’s ESG (Environmental Social Governance) Manager for Tanner Pharma.

Life was not always so chipper in those pre-Tanner days. Cut-throat work environments. Financial insecurity. Anxiety about what’s to come next.

Helen is a woman with experience in a lot of different fields. Before switching over to working with Tanner, she was working in the fashion industry managing multi-million-dollar contracts and travelling extensively. Though she had an eye for detail and business management, that environment became rather toxic. She left in 2017 after 25 years, concluding the fashion industry was no longer the right fit.

“I stepped off the planet for a year, to be honest. And I signed-on and just took a year out to decide what I wanted to do. Nothing really came to mind. I thought about setting up my own business.”

Ultimately, Helen started working part-time for a high-end kitchen manufacturer. She walked in to work daily (one of her lifetime ambitions) but still wasn’t satisfied. Work wasn’t challenging her enough.

All was not lost, however. “Out of the blue,” as Helen recalls, opportunity came knocking again. Jonathan Bracey, a friend and fellow rugby player of her partner, reached out. His request was for some help in Tanner’s UK office.

The work was for a couple of days a week, back in 2019. Today, Helen works full-time, now in a job she concludes is undoubtedly a great fit.

She started by helping with facilities management and keeping equipment and supplies up to date and in stock and looking after the UK team’s needs. Now, she manages. From day one, she was embraced by the staff with friendly and open arms. Helen didn’t realize this at the time, but she was becoming part of Tanner’s family culture.

“I couldn’t believe what I walked into. It just felt right from the minute I walked through the door. You’re all of a sudden equipped with a massive support network and a feeling that you’re not on your own.”

She finds coworkers, management, everyone, to be friendly, approachable, chatty. In the moments when there is silence in the office, that silence is never uncomfortable. As Helen herself admits, she’s not good at sitting around doing nothing. Thankfully, there’s plenty to do and plenty of people to work with along the way.

In 2020 Helen was offered a full-time role as project coordinator. If she thought things couldn’t get any better for her, she was wrong. She’s become an embodiment of what she appreciates in Tanner and what the company promotes, showcased in her being awarded this past January. Helen won the 2021 Chairman’s Award, the highest-tier accolade given by both CEO Banks Bourne and President Steve Scalia.

What felt like family early on has continued to remain the same for Helen.

“I’ve worked for lots of companies in the past that say they care about their employees, and they absolutely don’t. They’re all about the money and the turnover and are actually putting their employees at the very bottom of the list. Coming to Tanner, it’s completely flipped on its head. It’s all about the employees and the people we are helping around the world.”

Tanner’s approach to management has led to growth in her UK family these past couple of years. Twelve people are now twenty, and there are plans for further growth as Tanner expands its outreach to nations across the globe, and plants offices in more countries.

Helen would have never guessed where she would be today, but she couldn’t be anymore grateful.

From unsure to certain, Helen’s life was changed the day she came into the Tanner office. She drives in daily with a great sense of joy, something she hadn’t found elsewhere, and she hopes that will never change.

Opportunity knocked. She answered.

When Devotion Meets Work | Carolina Cortez https://tannerpharma.com/carolina-cortez/ Thu, 09 Jun 2022 14:20:12 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=2892

In the bundle of positive vibes and laughs that Carolina Cortez brings to work, she also carries with her an unbridled sense of devotion.

She remembers a day back when Tanner Pharma Group was in its infancy, Banks said to her about the company, “This is your baby, and if it grows, you grow as well.”

Carolina took the words to heart. Since then, she’s maintained the mindset, “This is mine too,” when thinking about Tanner and has acted accordingly. That’s why she can look back with glee and gratitude over the past 19 years as Executive Vice President of TannerLAC (Licensing, Acquisition, and Commercialization). The journey to where the company is today wasn’t easy, but when you’re devoted, easy isn’t necessary.

In the beginning, Banks and his team were looking for partners in Latin America. While they were on the search, not one of them spoke the native language. In stepped Carolina, a recent university graduate with an interest in finance, and holding down four jobs simultaneously. She had a hope of finding work with a larger company, and she was in luck. Tanner Pharma wasn’t a big company at the time, but it was built on big ideas.

Her encounter with Banks and his team may have been divine fate. Carolina interviewed and was awarded the position, making her only the second person to join the company since they began hiring.

As Carolina confesses, “Selling was not a skill I thought I had,” but she acted as translator for Tanner, relying on her Spanish and Portuguese. Though collaboration didn’t work out with this potential partner from Venezuela, her first day tested her leadership ability, and Carolina did not disappoint.

In the years that came, Carolina found more opportunities to lead. The company transitioned from building to building as it grew, started different programs, and expanded outreach. When the team was small everyone was up for doing anything necessary to push the company forward, even taking out the trash.

“If we had to take out the trash, everyone took out the trash. Even Steve, who is the company’s president. To me this is very nice because it doesn’t matter what my title is, everybody’s equal. That to me translates into ‘I care about you.’”

From that point the team began to quickly grow. As they encountered new experiences year over year, that care is what kept Carolina in her various roles, eventually becoming EVP of TannerLAC.

Company growth did not come without hitches along the way. Sometimes she and the company felt discouraged after getting bad news like losing a registration for a product, losing a market, or changing manufacturer and then not being able to sell a product in a certain country. But with every disappointment there was reason to continue. There was always someone who needed care, and always someone benefiting from their aid. With more people coming on board and more Tanner locations springing up across the globe, there was more work they could get done.

What Carolina realized with their work also was that sometimes those people who needed care were Tanner employees. She recalls one year when an associate suffered an illness. They were out of the office for almost a year, but when they came back, there was a job waiting for them. She herself has been in a similar position going through a loss, but the family culture kept her sustained.

At Tanner, family means working with a group of people who are willing to act, and seeking collaboration. Their motivation is not the promise of getting rich, but the promise of helping others. And what gets sown, is also reaped.

“You give but you also receive at Tanner,” she can say today with a smile.

For Carolina today, those years have flown by. A company of four has become a company of almost a hundred, and there are no plans to stop growing. Carolina hopes that as the company continues to expand its global outreach and bring people into the fold that the family culture will remain the same. She hopes that their caring nature will never change, because that’s what Tanner does best, caring for its products, its patients, and its people.

A Family Man, at Work and at Home | Bill Taylor https://tannerpharma.com/bill-taylor/ Thu, 09 Jun 2022 14:14:17 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=2890

There’s a certain joy you feel as you watch your family grow in number. There’s a similar feeling when your company does the same, especially when you can call them family.

Without a doubt, William Taylor, known as Bill around the office, is one of the longest standing members of Tanner Pharma Group. He’s General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Legal & Compliance, but you’d never guess. Bill could boast an impressive twenty years of service to the company, only, he doesn’t boast at all. If you were new to the company and never asked, Bill’s history would come as a surprise. If you decided to ask, however, Bill would discuss his work with Tanner not highlighting himself, but all those he’s worked with along the way. That’s been one of his greatest joys on the job – the people.

He enjoys learning from their expertise, and he appreciates the care they demonstrate through their work ethic. “I appreciate the knowledge other people have, and the fact that you can use that knowledge to do better in your own work. I’ve never seen a company where everyone is motivated to do the right thing!”

From Bill’s perspective, he has contributed his time and effort to the company, but he is only a part of the Tanner whole. The achievements of the other employees over the years are not something he could ignore even if he tried. That’s why today he looks back with such a deep appreciation for what others have offered. Tanner taught him that and he has had twenty years now to build this gratitude.

Two of the first people who come to mind when thinking about Tanner are Carolina Cortez and Maryori Alvarenga. Carolina joined in 2003 and not long thereafter Maryori joined the company as well – just in time to assist, with their special skills, when Tanner was developing its business in Mexico and South America.

Another more recent person that stands out is his assistant Lizza Pinch, who joined the company in January 2019; she has since brought on two additional paralegals, giving Bill a “little law firm.” With the additional help, they’ve been able to accomplish much more work. They have such a compatibility working together they’ve been finishing each other’s sentences.

Then, there was the leadership of Banks Bourne and Steve Scalia, and Bill can’t forget about Tanner’s collaboration with The Max Foundation. No matter where the job took him or who he worked with, work seemed to be win-win for everyone – patients benefitted, the company grew, employees enjoyed their jobs and Bill was growing within himself while making an impact on the community. “Our folks don’t fight. They work and compromise to try to do what’s right. That’s the whole thing. We hire good people and give them the resources they need to do what they need to do, and they do it well.”

Twenty years have passed, and Bill can say he has never burned out. Not once. He has no doubt that this wouldn’t be true working for another company. He found a company that delights in its craft and in its employees; in turn, work came naturally for Bill and he was happy to deliver.

Back in the day, when Tanner was BurnsAdler Pharmaceuticals, Bill’s position for the company looked different. He was the Director of Legal Affairs, collaborating with lawyers from across the world as Tanner expanded its community outreach, but he and the other handful of employees, including founder and CEO, Banks Bourne, had to wear many hats to make sure things got done. As the company grew, Bill and the others were able to share the load with new team members.

Today, that close-knit starter group has grown into a company that extends beyond national and continental borders; and, as the “Tanner family” continues to grow, the tight bonds have not been lost. Bill hopes that remains true, and that as people continue to join Tanner, they’ll be motivated to serve and help out, just like a family. For now, this company veteran will continue to work with a smile on his face, supporting all those he comes across.

Started Small, Ended Big | Gaby Bedoya https://tannerpharma.com/gaby-bedoya/ Thu, 09 Jun 2022 14:03:11 +0000 https://tannerpharma.com/?p=2884

She started small, and today looks back with gratitude because of where she is now.

For a little over eight years, Gaby Bedoya has been serving under different roles at Tanner Pharma Group. First as a quoter, today as a Business Development Manager for TannerGAP (Global Access Programs), and more recently the driving force behind Tanner’s newest GAP subdivision, TannerGMS (Global Medical Supply).

All those years ago, Gaby was new to the pharmaceutical industry. She remembers those early days at Tanner, working in an office so small that whenever her coworker got up to use the bathroom their chairs would bump into each other. These days, seating is more spacious, the company much larger, and the connection she felt with Tanner before has only grown.

In her previous line of work, Gaby worked for Barclays Bank. In a corporation this large, she was not so known by her name as she was by her customer rep number. When she came to Tanner that all changed.

“When I first got interviewed at Tanner, even though it was a quite small office, I saw how the team really treated each other like family and that’s something that sold me. I really wanted to be part of that family.”

“Even though, my previous experience was a little bit different, I knew that it was okay for me to start from the very bottom because I knew that eventually I would be able to grow.”

Shortly thereafter, Gaby was hired, and with time she recognized that she was in the right place. She grew, as did Tanner, and unlike the bank she once worked for, Gaby was now making a much more palpable difference in the community. A global community.

In the years that followed, Gaby’s responsibilities altered some, as did her titles, but she remained in business development culminating into her role today.

“I knew I always wanted to do business development. It’s truly my passion. It’s something that I truly enjoy. It really makes a lot of the difference when you love and when you enjoy what you do. I’m very grateful for that and Tanner has allowed me to do just that.”

One of Gaby’s fondest achievements within the company has been working alongside TannerCares, the philanthropic arm of Tanner. Through TannerCares, a percentage of every revenue dollar is allocated to philanthropic giving, supporting charities within the healthcare space, the causes of partners, and local events that are important team members. As an employee, Gaby recently submitted a requested to TannerCares to support child patients in Brazil. Tanner was able to donate a skin ointment product to support between 70 to 100 children in Brazil who are diagnosed with a rare disease known as ‘butterfly skin’.

This sort of impact is what struck Gaby the moment she walked in. Tanner has an effect on people, within the company and outside. As Gaby admits, “When we see an opportunity, we chase it.” Tanner isn’t shy about helping others.

As needs present themselves, Tanner finds a way to create a solution. Each service division and office location were built to better support patients and access to medicines. TannerGMS is just one example. When the pandemic hit, Tanner recognized the need for test kits, personal protective equipment and other materials in locations around the world. And although the company wasn’t in the business of supplying these items at the time, the manufacturing partnerships, supply channels and logistics expertise were already in place, so the team knew they could make an impact. And thus, TannerGMS was born with Gaby leading the charge.

The external impact would be impossible, however, without the sort of family culture Tanner cultivates from within. At Tanner people care, not just about their work but each other.

During her first year, Gaby came into work on her birthday, only, she had been having a rough day. That started to change when she realized her desk had been decorated with balloons and other things. Then her friend who used to work with Tanner invited her to lunch. After Gaby walked into the restaurant she quickly realized her friend wasn’t the only person eating with her. The whole office was present.

“That’s really in the DNA of Tanner. If I were to describe our Tanner family in a single word, it would be caring – caring for each other and for the people we strive to help around the world that we will never meet.”

At Tanner, Gaby found more than a company to work for, she found a group of people to call family. And together this family is creating positive change all across the globe. She’s more than a number, and so long as she remains with Tanner, Gaby hopes that will never change.
